Students' Comments

Alex is a uniquely talented teacher with a remarkable gift for inspiring authentic performances from his students. He is a trailblazer with a clear and uncompromising theatrical vision. He brings to his classes years of experience as a performer, director and teacher, and he infuses students with a sense of belief in their creativity. Alex is a truly gifted teacher who has had a profound impact on my own teaching of theatrical sensibility. You will actually learn in Alex’s classes, and for a teacher there is no greater compliment. This guy is the ‘real deal.’

When I came to Alex’s class I was in my forties, had no professional training whatsoever and little interest in becoming a working actor. It didn’t take long for all that to change. Alex’s class provided an immediate foundation for even an inexperienced actor like myself to get up on his feet. In a very short time, I was completely hooked. More than anything else, Alex was able to convey to me the joy of acting as well as the craft, and that is a gift that has made all the difference.

I first attended Alex's class as an adjunct to my personal development with the hope of enhancing my process. At first, I enjoyed the classes simply as pure, unadulterated fun, but Alex soon invited me into the 'meat and potatoes' of acting. I have acquired a deeper understanding of myself and others and the human condition in general, after experiencing a full range of theatrical exercises, practicing onstage and studying famous playwrights. Although I have no intention of pursuing acting as a career, I now have a much deeper appreciation for the acting craft, this art form through which we humans have been entertaining ourselves for thousands of years. Alex is intuitive and adept at leading a group down the actor's path, and his teaching style continually amazes me. I am still learning so much, after more than two years of continuous training.

I have known Alex Bruhanski since 1983. Over our twenty-three year professional relationship I have had the joy and privilege of being Alex’s student, teaching assistant, actress in several of the theatrical productions he directed, and most recently we taught on the same faculty at a private acting school.

Alex is one of those rare and sought after teachers whose classes are full of artistry, honesty, laughter, bravery, respect and enlightenment. With great intuition, sensitivity, vision and teaching talent, Alex offers ongoing opportunities for gentle and profound learning that really lasts and, more often than not, instigates a positive personal transformation.

Alex continues to have a heartfelt and inspiring impact on my life. I have been an actress, dancer and teacher for the past 20 years. I have written, directed and performed for both stage and film. Alex has played a tremendous part in my success in these areas.

One of Alex’s attributes that so easily lends itself to the art of teaching is his consistent desire and drive for his own personal growth. He is a lifelong learner himself, curious and always in the moment. Hundreds of his students have greatly benefited from that.

Of all the teachers with whom I have studied, I can think of no one deserving of a higher recommendation. Alex is a gem.
